In past two years I have changed my home address 7 times.  The first time I moved out from home my mum stuffed my stepdad’s car with pots, pans (everything you can imagine, really) and insisted him to drive me from Lithuania to England. She wanted to make sure I take everything I need with me. Now two years have passed and I’ve realized that all my belongings fit into one suitcase. One. Believe me it’s much easier this way, especially when you can buy all the things you need when you arrive. However, I can’t help myself but miss that care which only family can give you.  I miss it every time I walk into my empty flat.

My friend Greg, on the other hand, is luckier than me. He lives with a Chinese family during his internship time. They call him while he’s at work, asking how his day is going, they cook him nice Chinese meals, show him around the town and push him to practice his Chinese.  Before the arrival his original plan was to live with a Chinese family for the first few months and then find an apartment and move in with his friends. However, he stayed with a Chinese family as their place already have become like a second home to him.

When you think about it, could you find a better way to learn about the inner life of a Chinese family and practice your language? If I wouldn’t be living in a free accommodation at the moment, I would definitely be considering this myself. However, when deciding whether to live with a Chinese family or not, you should take into account that some things in the house might be handled a little bit differently than you are used to, because Chinese culture is different from the one you are living in. However, I would definitely recommend you to take this rare opportunity and make the most of your time in China. Besides, there is one very important thing I’ve learnt during those two years:  no home will be real home if there is nobody waiting for you to come back.

Enjoy your week everyone!

My best wishes!

Hi everybody!

This is Stefan from Internchina Qingdao blogging. Some news to update you: Internchina Qingdao office is proud to present its first Bar Tour on February 11th! It was an amazing pub crawl well organized by Franzi for her very last weekend in Qingdao as an Internchina intern :( Thank you so much for everything!
Back to topic: 15 participants divided in groups of 3 people (with at least one girl in each group to keep fair conditions) tried their best to be the first group in the last bar, in order to get the prize of free beer. We had quite a lot new arrivals these days so it totally made sense to let them get to know Qingdao’s nightlife and the new intern community. Despite the competitive character, the atmosphere was relaxed and – for sure – everybody had great times. Altogether 6 Bars were involved and had great offers of 7 drinks and snacks. For every Bar each participant got his Bar Visa stamped to make sure, no one skips a Bar to be the first group. Although there was not really a danger of people skipping drinks, which they would get for special offer . We started at Diner22 with a cocktail of our choice and some snacks to be prepared for the evening. The route for the next stops (Terrazzo, Old Jack’s, Charlie’s Bar and LPG) could be chosen by every group itself. However, except one group we all took the same ways, enjoying the drinks together. The variety of drinks we got in every Bar ranged from Cocktails, over beer, shots, wine and Long drinks. That night’s destination that had to be reached safely and with full stamp card, was Carnegie’s in Zhonglian Plaza. Oh and… well, guess who’s team won? I had loved to drink my winner beer but someone stole it!… The destination Zhonglian Plaza was of course also well chosen, since it is well known party area in Qingdao. For those who still didn’t had enough after 6 Bars and at least 7 drinks, there is Ye Chao Club right next door of Carnegie’s. Fortunately, everybody made it to the final stop without any bigger incidents.
The next Bar Tour will be in March, the exact date will be announced soon! Hard to top that pub crawl but we are working hard on it :)

Hopefully see you on the next tour then!

Cheers,

Stefan – Bar Tour Champion February 2012

Here I am, on a sandy coast, watching waves hitting the shore. I didn’t realize how much I’ve missed it… The sea… It’s fascinating how peaceful you can feel just from gazing at it. It’s beautiful in here. Zhuhai seems like a unique combination of a modern city with booming business and a peaceful seaside town with couples, holding hands, carelessly walking on the sea shore. I haven’t missed Beijing even for a fraction of a second.

You are probably wondering who is this person writing all these things in here? I should have introduced myself in the first place. My name is Beata and I am a new intern at Intern China’s Zhuhai office.  Originally from Lithuania, studied International Business with Chinese at Sheffield Hallam University (UK), spent 4 months at Beijing University of Chemical Technology doing a Chinese language course. Now I’m here in Zhuhai helping out at Intern China’s office.

If somebody would have told me where I’m going to be in four years’ time, I would have thought that they’re crazy.  For a small family like ours it was impossible to send me to study abroad and all the trips to China was simply out of my imagination. However, my life went in a very unexpected direction, simply because of the opportunities the Globalization time has brought us. Travelling has never been so easy and cheap as it is now.  Nor the communication – few clicks on the Internet and you’re already connected with people you need. So if there is anybody reading this, who has ever wondered about doing something crazy and travel somewhere unknown, this is the best time to do so! And there is no need to be threatened by the uncertainty which lays ahead, such companies like InternChina will take your hand and lead you from the very beginning till the very end.

( I know, I know this girl talks a hell of a lot! :D )

Have a nice week everyone!

My best wishes,

Beata

I’m Antoine, the new French intern in Qingdao and I arrived last week. That’s my first time in China and so far, my impressions are very good. It’s really cold right now in Qingdao but people are really warm and welcoming.

I have a lot of various and interesting tasks here like assisting Philippe with the French Universities and internship inquiries. The work atmosphere is really positive at the office and I think I will have a good time being an intern at InternChina.

See you in Qingdao!

Antoine

Besides Badminton and Table Tennis, Roller-skating seems to be one of the Chinese national sports. Try not to look like an elephant on wheels next to the Chinese guys showing off all their tricks and skills to impress the girls! We tried and, of course, looked perfectly skilled and charming.
In one of the big arcade halls in Qingdao we travelled back to the 80s with laser-lighted skating-rink, manic techno-beats and 4 wheels under our feet. After the first steps that looked pretty helpless we soon discovered some pros in our group. Either due to intensive skating experience in their childhood or secret practicing, two of the guys even managed the obstacles in the skating rink quite elegant. Somehow, the rest of us were busy keeping balance with flailing our arms and staying close to the side walls. Even with four wheels it is not as easy as it sounds, but after few rounds we all became saver on the skates. Still we looked relatively stupid compared to the agile Chinese guys. It was fun though and maybe next time we go there we can show off with some skills too!

Hi! This is Sunny from Intern China Zhuhai Office. Last Wednesday, we organized a calligraphy lesson for our interns. The teacher is my friend who is interested in Chinese traditional culture so much and has been practising for more than 30 years.

When we arrived at his office, he showed tea culture to us first, we tasted 3 different of tea first, he showed us how to make Kongfu Tea (功夫茶) and how to taste it.

Kung Fu tea, is not a name of a kind of tea but a drinking way and a culture. The procedures require skills and patient. These years it’s very popular in Japan and South Korea.

“Wow, so good!”

After the Tea tasting, we started our calligraphy class.

Firstly ,the teacher briefed us the history of Chinese calligraphy. introduced us “文房四宝”( four Treasures of calligraphy)—笔(bǐ, brush-pen),

墨(mò,ink), 纸( zhǐ,paper), 砚(yàn,ink stone)

笔(bǐ, brush-pen),how to handle a brush pen

Karl’s first time trying ,but she was good at it. Jamie is not too bad at it :)

This is me, not bad at all! Right?!

for our office. You will see it when you come to Intern China’s Zhuhai office.

I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand. Xunzi (荀子) 不闻不若闻之,闻之不若见之,见之不若知之,知之不若行之。学至于行而止矣。

Hi All!

I am Philippe Touzin and I am the newly appointed InternChina Office Manager in Zhuhai. So if you come over to Zhuhai we will definitely meet and get to know each other!

Currently I am in the UK, London, waiting to have my working Visa/permanent residence (Z Visa)-and i received it today thus ready to head back to China!

I would like to introduce briefly to you all the process for Interns such as yourselves on how to acquire the correct Visas, for more details, have a look here, http://internchina.org/en/info/included.

Once you have signed the contract with InternChina for an internship in a company of your choice, we will then send you an Invitation Letter.
This letter is the document you need to apply at your local Chinese embassy or Visa center, you will be applying for a F Visa. This is the appropriate Visa for an Internship as set by Chinese government.
So with our letter its simple to go, apply and then travel to China! You can chose in your application to have several entry or double or single entry Visa, apply for the one you wish, but i suggest a multi-entry visa, so that you enjoy the joys of Hong-Kong and Macao! However the Chinese embassy constantly change their regulations and they are the ones to have the last word in how many entries you receive…but don’t worry you’ll have a great time in any case. :D . Professionally and Socially.

I hope you all had great Festivities!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Philippe
